The Reserve Platform Bookingone of the largest in the world, has eliminated 4,093 illegal ads of tourist accommodations in Spain, most of the Canary Islands, after receiving a requirement from the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030.
As detailed by the Ministry this Thursday, although the majority of these ads They were in the Canary Islands, one of the main tourist destinations in Spain, ads have also been eliminated in regions such as Asturias, Cantabria, Castilla y León, NavarraLa Rioja and Castilla-La Mancha.
These ads breached the current legislation on tourist housing advertising, so the Ministry requested its elimination from Booking, a company that, according to consumption, has collaborated to “ensure that the offer of tourist accommodations on the platform complies with the legality and offers all guarantees” to consumers.
This action occurs a week after the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid supported the order of the Ministry of Consumer to Airbnb for the second time to withdraw more than 65,000 illegal ads of tourist accommodations.
In the case of Airbnb, Justice has endorsed the consumption order after rejecting the precautionary measures requested by the platform, forcing it to eliminate illegal advertising detected by the consumption analysis unit.
The infractions detected in the ads eliminated by Booking and those denounced to Airbnb focus on three aspects: the absence of the mandatory license or registration number, the inclusion of false or incorrect numbers, and the lack of information on the legal nature of the landlords, that is, if they are professionals or individuals.
The Minister of Consumption, Pablo Bustnduy, has stressed that these actions are decisive to stop the “indiscriminate proliferation” of illegal tourist floors, a phenomenon that, according to the Ministry, contributes to the difficulties of access to housing in the areas of greater tourist pressure such as the Canary Islands.
