“This is an award for everyone who consumes our milk,” he said Tuesday Juanma GarroPresident of Lactural. In his speech after collecting the second prize Sustainable SME of the 2025 Pyme Navarra AwardHe has defended that when Lactore was born 17 years ago he did it with very clear principles. “They treated us crazy when we talked about sustainability and animal welfare. Then there was talk of the risk premium,” he recalled making it clear that in his sector, as in the field “we must collect” and that that is “what we do every day.” He has emphasized that integrated production is nothing more than “cleaner milk with healthier cows and feed you more.” “Sustainability is not an option, you have to do it yes or yes,” he defended. Among the innovative practices of Lactore is its energy self -consumption system and the production and distribution of biogas from the slurry of its cows, which reinforces its commitment to the circular economy and the reduction of environmental impact. In the Lactural Etxeberri farm there are around 500 milking cows and every day about 65 tons of manure are generated. These are taken to the Biogás plant digester, and there they undergo a transformation that results in electricity.
Lactore, founded in 2005 by a group of Navarrese farmers, has experienced remarkable growth in recent years. In the beginning, the company produced around 25 million liters of milk a year, of which it packaged approximately 45% under its own brand. Its commitment to sustainability and quality has been key to its consolidation in the market.
In 2011, Lactore invested 4 million euros in the modernization of its facilities, with special focus on energy efficiency and reduction of environmental impact, add that in addition to the biogas plant, it also currently has photovoltaic panels, as well as geothermia. In fact, Etxeberri’s is the only European floor with the three renewable energies: geothermal, solar and biogas.
Garro has taken advantage of his intervention to claim that “we do not forget the situation we live at the political level” that demands that “good people leave and do the good policy because we need it. We want to make the Latin plant,” he claimed taking advantage of the presence in the delivery of awards of Íñigo Arruti, general director of Business Development of the Government of Navarra. “There are many people who don’t have to eat. We don’t lose that north.”
