The next Saturday, June 7the Prohibition of commercial calls from mobile numbersa measure that is included in the government plan to fight the telephone scams and by SMS.

The measure, collected in the TDF/149/2025 order of the Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Public Function and published on February 15, seeks to stop the use of the national mobile numbering by the “pirates” to try to undertake scams of impersonation of identity with which to achieve, for example, confidential information of users, such as their bank data.

Regarding the temporary decalage between the publication of the Ministerial Order and the beginning of the application of these measures, the Government explained at the time that it is due to the need to give a certain margin to the organisms or entities that continue to use the mobile numbering for commercial calls.

Another of the measures contemplated by the government plan to fight against telephone scams and through SMS has to do with the qualification of numbers 800 and 900 (both free) to issue callssince so far they could only receive them. In this way, commercial calls can be made from numbers specially attributed to it (such as 1004 Telefónica, for example), from geographical numbering or from the aforementioned 800 or 900.

This last measure, in force since March 7, began to be applied in parallel to the obligation by the operators to block calls and SMS of numbers that have not been attributed, assigned or awarded to a service, to an operator or a client, for example, the numbers that begin by 3 or 4.

In fact, Telefónica has already applied this blockage since last March, a measure that also seeks to avoid scams that favor the supplant of identity by simulating calls from reliable local numbers.
